duas for driving for muslims

In the Name of Allah—the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful.

Muslims, we begin all actions with the name of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ), and driving is no exception. Whether you’re heading to work, picking up your kids, or embarking on a long trip, reciting a dua before driving transforms the journey into an act of worship.

It invites protection, peace of mind, and a reminder that movement begins by Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ)’s will.

In this guide, we’ll cover essential Islamic duas, including the dua for safe driving, dua for car protection, and supplications to overcome driving anxiety and pass driving tests.

What is the Dua for Driving?

The dua to recite when driving a vehicle can be found in the Quran, Surah Az-Zukhruf (43:13):

سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَٰذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ ۝ وَإِنَّا إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا لَمُنقَلِبُونَ

Transliteration: Subḥānal-ladhī sakh-khara lanā hādhā wa mā kunnā lahu muqrinīn. Wa innā ilā rabbina lamunqalibūn.

Translation: Glory is to Him who has subjected this for us, and we could never have accomplished it. And indeed, to our Lord we will surely return.

This dua for driving expresses gratitude and humility before Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). It’s not just about safety—it’s about acknowledging that every journey is part of our path back to Him.

Dua for Travelling in a Car in Arabic

Muslims are encouraged to memorise this beautiful Islamic dua when travelling in any vehicle, including cars, buses, or even aeroplanes.

This dua not only secures the journey but brings immense barakah (blessing) and peace.

Transliteration:

Allāhu akbar, Allāhu akbar, Allāhu akbar, subḥāna alladhī sakhkhara lanā hādhā wa-mā kunnā lahu muqrinīn ۝ wa-innā ilā rabbinā lamunqalibūn, Allāhumma innā nasʾaluk fī safarinā hādhā al-birra wa-at-taqwā, wa-min al-ʿamali mā tarḍā

Translation:
O Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ), we ask You in this journey for righteousness and piety, and for deeds that are pleasing to You.

Reciting this dua for a car journey invites Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ)’s mercy and grants safety for you and your companions.

Can I Recite the Dua for Driving in English & Urdu?

Yes, absolutely. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) understands every language. If you’re learning or unable to read Arabic, recite the meaning with sincerity.

English: Glory be to the One who has given us control over this transport, and we could not have done so by ourselves. Indeed, to our Lord we will return.

Whether in English, Urdu, or Arabic, the intention (niyyah) matters most.

Many Islamic scholars encourage learning the Arabic form gradually while using your native language in the meantime.

Facing a driving test can bring nervousness. But making dua for success in your driving test invites Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ)’s help. Start your day with this sincere supplication:

Transliteration: Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ)umma la sahla illa ma ja-‘altahu sahla, wa anta taj-alul hazna idha shi’ta sahla.

Before a long road trip, recite this beautiful safe journey dua. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) used to say this when travelling:

Ask for ease, guidance, and protection before boarding the vehicle. This dua for travelling helps transform a simple trip into an act of remembrance.

Dua for Car Protection – Seeking Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ)’s Safety from Accidents

Driving is a responsibility. Cars are fast, powerful, and can be dangerous. Seeking Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ)’s protection from harm is essential.

How to Make Dua for a Car?

Buying a new car is a blessing. Gratitude should be your first step. Make dua to reflect gratitude to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).

Here’s how:

  • Begin with Bismillah.
