Our senses are how we perceive the world, which is this beautiful world that Allah created. While all senses are important, eyesight is arguably the most important one.
In one study, 88% of the respondents placed eyesight/vision as the most valuable sense.
This is why dua for eyesight should be a consistent part of our routine. Even if we don’t suffer from eye problems or diseases, incorporating dua for eyesight (preferably a combination of duas) should still be a regular practice.
For those with vision issues, whether it’s something minor like weak eyesight or more serious conditions like macular degeneration, dua for eyesight should be as frequent as any medical remedies they are following.
What Does Allah (SWT) Say About The Human Eyesight In The Quran?
According to one paper, there are 34 Quranic verses related to visual function.
Allah (SWT) has mentioned human eyesight several times and in different contexts. Most of the instances where the words related to vision and eyesight were used referred to appeasing and soothing the eyes or how eyes are used to supervise.
However, Allah (SWT) also mentioned eyes in terms of their function and numbers (Quran 90:8):
Arabic
Transliteration
alam naj’al lahu aynayni
Translation
Have We not given them two eyes.
One instance of an eye disease is also mentioned in the context of extreme grief: “He turned away from them, lamenting, “Alas, poor Joseph!” And his eyes turned white out of the grief he suppressed.” (Quran 12:84)
The Broader Context
It’s important to note that in addition to eyes and eyesight, multiple mentions are made of what they are used for, i.e., seeing.
Allah (SWT) said: “Do they not see that We made the night for them to rest in and the day bright? Surely in this are signs for those who believe.” (Quran 27:86).
In this context, eyesight is not just a critical blessing. It’s also a facilitator of faith, as it helps people see the glory of Allah’s creations. This makes the dua for eyesight even more significant.

What Improves Eyesight In Islam?
The Hadith and Sunnah of the Prophet (peace be upon him) include several references to remedies and items that could be used to improve eyesight.
Visit Your Doctor And Get A Check Up
Islam encourages its followers to seek practical solutions for problems, which includes using medicine and having their eyes checked by a doctor.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “There is no disease that Allah has created, except that He also has created its treatment.”
Honey
Honey is cherished for its medicinal properties in Islam.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said,
[/hadith_border]“Healing is in three things: cupping, a gulp of honey or cauterisation (branding with fire) but I forbid my followers to use cauterisation (branding with fire).” [/hadith_border]
This makes ingesting honey a broad-spectrum cure for many health issues, including eye problems.
Modern medicine also considers honey an effective eye treatment thanks to its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties.
Olive Oil
Olive oil is known for its many health benefits. It was narrated from ‘Umar that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “Season (your food) with olive oil and anoint yourselves with it, for it comes from a blessed tree.”
A verse in the Quran (An-Nur 24:35) also points to its importance. Scholars have also studied it for its medicinal properties for ages.
Truffle (Kama’ah)
Truffles, or desert mushrooms, which used to be referred to as Kama’ah, are also considered an important remedy for eye problems.
In addition to dua for eyesight, using truffles, since the Prophet (peace be upon him) mentioned them for their benefits for eyes, can yield positive results.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Truffles are a form of manna, and its liquid is a cure for the eye. Al-‘Ajwah is from Paradise, and it contains a cure for poison.”
How To Pray And Ask Allah For Good Eyesight?
Respect and proper procedure, as passed on to us by the Prophet (peace be upon him), Sahaba, and Islamic scholars, are essential when praying to Allah for good eyesight.
Step 1: Praise Allah
It’s good practice to start your dua with Surah Al-Fatiha. You can also use Allah’s name to invoke his blessing and mercy before you start your dua.
Step 2: Make The Actual Dua
When asking Allah for good eyesight, don’t make it all about the words you utter.
Feel it and fill your dua with heartfelt emotions. Take your time. And keep invoking Allah’s various attributes, such as his mercy, forgiveness, absolute power, etc.
Step 3: Say Ameen and Pray For Others As Well
Praying for others, in your family, friends, or even strangers, can also be a good practice.
Summary – Dua for Eyesight
Dua for eyesight and following the remedies mentioned in Hadith can help you improve your eyesight and manage a wide range of eye diseases.
